Pilgrimage tour

Here is a grand pilgrimage tour that covers several holy places in North India ranging from Varanasi to Badrinath. Many of them are close to each other and well connected.

The holy city of Varanasi is known for its large number of historic temples nestling on the banks of River Ganga like theDurga Temple, SankatMochan Temple, Tulsi Manas Temple and Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Bharat Mata Temple is a unique one dedicated to Mother India.

Rishikesh is a city in Dehradun district of the Indian state Uttarakhand; it is located at the foothills of Himalayas. It is considered as the yoga capital of the world. It has an interesting link with the British pop band ‘Beetles.’

Haridwar, on the banks of River Ganges has a large number of ashrams or hermitages that traditionally taught science, philosophy and Indian arts. This place is well known for hosting a number of religious fairs round the year like KumbhMela and Ganga Dusshera.

Yamunotri(known for its sacred shrine) is considered as the source of the River Yamuna. It happens to be the westernmost shrine in the Garhwal Himalayas. Likewise, Gangotri is considered sacred as it is the source of the holy River Ganga.

Kedarnath and Badrinath are again twin pilgrim centres with majestic and high snow clad peaks surrounding them. The present famous temple in Bardinath is thought to have been built by the great Indian saint-philosopher Adi Shankaracharya.

A visit to these holy sites can bring peace and tranquility to the vexed mind and elevate the spiritual experience of the pilgrims.
